How It Works
Mobile Phone Xchange are a trusted and well known mobile phone recycler. They will take your old or unwanted mobile phones and literally exchange them for cash. They take the phone, grade it and then send you payment depending on the condition. Mobile Phone Xchange will pay anything up to £150 for your old mobile phone. The website allows you to search for your make & model to find out how much it’s worth before you send it in to them. If you are happy with the value then sending in your mobile is free.
When you arrive at the Mobile Phone Xchange website you will see how easy it is to use. They have a search form on the homepage so that you can put in the make and model of your mobile phone straight away. As you start typing it will auto-suggest the models of whatever make of mobile phone you are typing in. Alternatively you will find a search box on the top right of every page. You may want to check out their T.V advert. Which is a video of how the site works. They also have a “How It Works” page. Which is what you’d expect. This lays out how easy it is to sell your mobile phone to them in 3 simple steps.
1. Search for and Value your phone
You can do this on site or if you don’t know the exact model you can get the phones IMEI code number by pressing *#06#. If that doesn’t work or the phone doesn’t turn on try lookin underneath the battery on the back of the phone. You can then enter that IMEI number instead of make and model.
2. Send phone in
Once you are happy with the value offered for your phone. You will need to create a quick account with them and give your details. You can request a freepost envelope which should arrive promptly the very next day. The Mobile Phone Xchange site reccomend that you send your phone via recorded special delivery. (Especially for more expensive phones) MPX will check your phone and send you payment.
3. Get paid
Depending on how you chose to be paid for your phone either by straight payment into your bank by B.A.C.S transfer. Cheque payment made out to you. Paypal payment or Argos vouchers. All you have to do now is get paid.
That’s pretty much it. There’s not much else you can do. Of course once you have opened an account with them and sold your first mobile phone. You can return again to sell another one with them in the future without having to sign up again.
But that’s not everything. Sell your old or unused mobile phone to Mobile Phone Xchange and get entered into a free prize draw! Every month Mobile Phone Xchange hold a free prize draw for people who have sold a mobile phone to them at random. The winner will receive the prize mentioned on the competition page. The draw is open to all customers aged 16 or over resident in the UK. The Winner will be contacted by telephone on the date of the draw.
When using the site for yourself. Check out the FAQ page and their terms page for yourself to see all of their terms & conditions which are simplified and easy to understand. No technical jargon or very fine print here.
So What Now?
Mobile Phone Xchange will take your mobile phone and grade it depending on the condition the phone is in. If it’s in good condition they will refurbish the phone and it will be sold on to devoloping third world countries. Mobile Phone Exchange plan to sell the handsets for a very small percentage of what they are worth in the UK to address the environmental issues of dumping mobile phones as well as providing for underprivileged people who’d normally be unable to afford a mobile.

DON,T use them they told me my perfectly good phone was not in working order and sent me very little for it, it also took a month for the cheque to come through and I could not get through on their help line at all.
Well your comment doesn't really say much. I've just rang them and they answered straight away. Was a nice young girl. She was happy to answer any of my questions. 99% of people get their money but there's always 1% that try and take them for a fool.
Sorry but still cannot get through and have also emailed them and hey! no response!!! I am no fool my phone was being used until the day I sent it off.
Would never use them again. Was quoted £40 for perfectly good phone. When I received my email from them after they received my phone they said quoted value £40 actual voucher value £10. Total rip off. It's an absolute take on. Envirophone for me the next time.
I am having a bad experience with Mobile Phone Xchange. They valued my phone at £80 its only a few months old and never damaged. They send me an email saying its only worth £20 cos its had water damage. I said NO WAY!!! So they said OK we will give you £70 for it. Although I am only losing £10 I don't like they way they are doing business so I said no I don't want it send me the phone back. They are refusing as its not their policy to send them back. I keep emailing them telling them I don't accept this but they just keep repeating themselves and avoiding my questions about a cooling off period and that surely the phone still belongs to me until we can agree. I have reported them to trading standards and they agreed that this isn't fair and will be investigating. Other sites do return phones if you aren't happy with the quote so it's simple – don't use them.
To update my last post – the trading standards agency have called me and will be contacting the company on my behalf to see if they can get the phone back – its well worth reporting this company if they have tried to rip you off!
They most definately do refuse to return phones! I have an email from them where they state "It is clearly stated in our terms and conditions that we are unable to send the handsets back.
They have sent me this email following my refusal to accept a reduced offer on a handset that I sent them. Their original offer was £40, which they then reduced to £11 and when I disputed their findings they increased the offer to £25. I didn't accept the increased offer and requested my handset be returned for inspection by an independant expert, which is the reason they emailed to tell me that they don't return handsets.
It seems from searching I have done that this company regularly reduces an offer but when the reduced offer is refused, they then increase the offer. If the handsets they are claiming are damaged really were damaged they would not increase the offers!!
This type of practice needs to be stopped, there needs to be some immediate form of redress available to people who are a victim of scams like this.
MPX are the ones in the wrong here and I too will be reporting them to Trading Standards.
Hi, I would just like to let you know that I am a different anonymous to the first anonymous poster. I only left my comment as this because as it didn't work when I tried to post using a name.
To respond to your comment " I have to point out that MPX are not a scam", my reference to the scam was in respect of the practice of reducing offers(reducing original offers on receipt of the handset, increasing the offer when the reduction was not accepted, but not honouring the original offer) not an accusation that the company was a scam
I clearly understood their terms and conditions and had read them before agreeing to them. It is important to note that I did so knowing that I was sending them a handset that was in full working order, so I didn't anticipate there would be a need for me to request the handset back.
I feel that their terms to not send the handset back is unfair especially when they are hiding behind this in cases of dispute.
I know you recommend this company and they may have had thousands of happy customers but if you look at the complaints, they all seem to have started in the past couple of months! It is also pertinent to note that of the complaints made, most are in respect of reduced offers for perfectly working handsets. They also outline in their terms what constitutes a working handset. My handset qualified as one and the contract I agreed to with them was based on this qualification.
Hi, we are different anonymous' from the above ones.
We sent MPX FOUR different phones, all in order according to their T & C's e.g. no water damage or cracks etc and received 75% of our quotes back with reduced prices apparently due to ' a cracked keypad' (which didn't exist),'not fully working' (they were VERY unspecific as to hat this actually meant, nevermind the phone was in PERFECT order) and apparently one of our phones was the wrong model from that which we'd been quoted for.
We called up to argue our case and we spoke to a call centre agent who lied through her teeth about the apparent state of our phones. When we asked to speak to her supervisor she told us in a smug tone that she WAS the supervisor. We requested our phone which was the 'wrong model' was returned and was told that their policy was that they didn't return phones. (Another agent who hides behind T & C's) we were then told it would cost us TEN POUNDS to get it back despite the fact that legally this phone was still very much our property and they had no right to charge us for that which is still very much ours.
When we said that their policy was outrageous and should be stated more clearly we were told it was our fault if we weren't familiar with the contract to which we hadn't entered yet…..
We told them that we were going to go to trading standards as not only were we treated unfairly but on top of this approx 60% (and this is only the reported ones) of new phones arrive 'damaged' in some way which lets them reduce the money they give you.
Once the manager heard we would report them to the authorities he then offered us a deal (if you can believe it). He agreed the apparent damage did not warrant the reduction and were petty so here was his deal.
He would credit us with £13 and deduct the £10 return charge from that or he would give us £13 and throw the phone away. After we argued AGAIN he gave us the full quote for our phones except the 'wrong model' which we had to accept at under half its original quotation.
DONT USE THIS COMPANY, IF OVER 60% OF PHONES ARRIVE 'DAMAGED' THAT TURN OUT NOT TO BE THEN THEY WERE TAKING EVERYONE FOR FOOLS.
A good example of their lies is another consumer sent 5 brand new and unopened phones to them and they claimed the phones were extremely damaged!
We are a company who have recycled handsets with MPX in the past and we got considerable less than expected, when we said we wanted them sent back to us they said unfortunately they have gone to hong kong, discusting
Phone Shop…
Cool site. You should also look at the My Telecoms website. Their blog is really cool, and they have lots of great mobile deals….
