The match between Vietnam and Oman in the third round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers ended with a score of 1-3 in favor of the away team. Despite their best efforts, coach Park Hang-seo’s team was unable to secure their first points after 4 matches.
Nightmare First Half and Relentless Efforts
Right from the start, Oman delivered a cold shower to the Vietnamese team with two quick goals. Issam Al Sabhi’s goal in the 15th minute and Mohsin Al-Ghassani’s goal in the 41st minute left the fans at My Dinh Stadium stunned.
However, the resilient fighting spirit of the Vietnamese team was clearly displayed in the second half. In the 50th minute, from Quang Hai’s corner kick, Tien Linh rose high and headed the ball into Oman’s net, narrowing the score to 1-2.
Victory Belongs to Oman
In the following minutes, the Vietnamese team pushed forward to attack and look for an equalizer. However, the excellent performance of Oman’s goalkeeper Faiyz Al-Rushaidi denied all efforts from the red-shirted strikers. Moreover, in the 67th minute, Oman secured their 3-1 victory with a goal from Khalid Al-Hajri.
Valuable Lessons Learned
Despite not achieving the desired result, the match against Oman showed the progress of the Vietnamese team. Coach Park Hang-seo’s players played with effort and bravery against a higher-rated opponent.
This defeat will be a valuable lesson for the Vietnamese team to continue improving on their journey ahead.
